Who is Jesus Christ |
|
A real person? Legend? Myth? Fairytale? Jesus was a real person whose existence not only is recorded in the New Testament but whose existence is also recorded by other historians of the time such as Josephus.
Jesus claimed to be the Son of God and the long awaited Messiah the Jewish people had been waiting for for centuries. Can his claims be verified? Jesus’ power to heal illness, to bring people back to life after they had died (read the story of Lazarus in John 11), his control over nature (see Matthew 8:23-27) are testified to in the New Testament. Jesus’ followers were convinced by his works and teaching that he had the power of God. Could his followers make up these stories? Well they could have but for what reason? There was no fame or financial gain to be had. They put their own lives at risk to make sure people knew who Jesus was. His followers chose painful deaths rather than to retract their claim that Jesus was the Son of God, the long expected Messiah. In the last century more people died because of their Christian beliefs than in any other period of history? Have they thrown their lives away or is there something in Jesus’ claim worth dying for? Each person has to decide for themselves. What about you? |
